“In Conversation with” Professor Jon Prangnell - Identifying a burns victim at the North Brisbane Burial Grounds 150 years after death"

Professor Prangnell has managed 7 Cemetery excavations and would be an accidental Cemetery Archaeologist. He has helped Cemeteries with land re-allocations and finding lost graves. In this webinar, Jon will share his experience on a North Brisbane excavation, where they were able to identify the remains of a lady who had died from a ‘skirt fire’ from the fabric she was buried in. Guest Bio

Associate Professor Jonathan Prangnell is a Reader in Historical Archaeology and Cultural Heritage in the School of Social Science, The University of Queensland. His research interests include the development of Queensland throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. He has also published widely on the taphonomic and social transformations that result in the archaeological record of historic period burials. Jonathan has published extensively in archaeology and heritage and has produced over 250 consultancy reports on Queensland’s cultural heritage. He is also a past-president of the Australasian Society for Historical Archaeology, past editor of Australasian Historical Archaeology, is on the editorial board of the International Journal of Historical Archaeology, on the Brisbane City Council Heritage Advisory Committee and is an Honorary Research Fellow of the Queensland Museum.
